The CC Shield was designed in 2020 by a dentist. During the COVID Pandemic Lockdown, Dr. Shawn Thompson envisioned an idea to offer full face, head, and neck protection from aerosols and toxins placed into the air in his dental treatment rooms. Traditional face masks seemed to lack adequate protection, causing many in his field and others to avoid working in a patient environment in order to lower the risk of infection.
With the assistance of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Ventures Program, Dr. Thompson and a team of engineers were able to come up with a design that they felt offered ultimate protection from the aerosols. The CC Shield can be easily adjusted using the drawstring to bring it closer or farther away from the face, allowing it to be used by those who wear glasses or surgical loupes. The simple one piece design allows the user to easily clean and disinfect the CC Shield.

WEARING THE CC SHIELD:
In some situations, dictated by health department and local government recommendations, a face mask may be optional. The closer the shield is placed towards the face, the more stability. Some customers have found that the supplied alligator clips on each upper side, clipping the edge of the shield to their scrubs, jacket, or top, has increased stability even further. Those who are required to wear a gown should place the shield on first and the upper portion of the gown will not only improve stability, but increase protection even more.
CLEANING THE CC SHIELD:
Although made of a durable material the CC Shield can be subject to scratches, etc. Any spray cleaner suitable for plastic is acceptable to clean the CC Shield. We have found that using Isopropyl alcohol on a Kleenex works very well to clean the CC Shield.
Thank you for your purchase of the CC Shield; the shield that offers Complete Coverage of the face, neck, and cheeks to maximize the prevention of aerosol disease spreading.
As with any new type of device being worn to help in the prevention of disease spread, there is an adjustment phase, getting used to the feel of the device. We have designed the CC Shield with comfort and efficiency in mind. There are a couple of basic design features to help understand how to obtain the best results when wearing the CC Shield.
The base of the shield has been designed to comfortably lay on the upper chest area over the collar bone. The width of the base is such that when wearing a surgical gown, lab coat, sweater or other garment, the garment will lay over the base and hide the base and drawstring, making it even more protective. This also adds additional support of the shield to prevent movement of the shield. Alligator clips are an added feature, they clip to the side of the shield, lightly grasping the shield and the undergarment; this offers additional stability.
Once in position, an adjustable draw string is used to secure the shield in place. The drawstring may initially appear a bit stiff and difficult to adjust. The stiffness assists in keeping the shield secure from sliding around while wearing it. Over time and continued use, the stiffness will ease up slightly and adjustment will be easier.
To wear the shield, place the drawstring over the head and resting on the back of the neck.
Place the shield in a comfortable position. The most comfortable, efficient position is approximately 2 to 3 inches from the tip of the nose; this allows space for air flow to help prevent fogging as well as room for wearing a mask or small respirator.
Once you have positioned the shield, pull the drawstring taunt against the shield. Make sure the drawstring engages the notch on each side of the shield; this further helps secure the stability of the shield. Slide the lock mechanism upwards to secure the drawstring. The alligator clips can be placed along each side of the shield, lightly grasping the undergarment and the shield. The higher up the clip, the more stability offered. You may now place a garment on if desired.
The shield should rest comfortably and stable once the drawstring is tightened. If not, check to make sure the drawstring has engaged the notch on each side of the shield and make sure the drawstring has been pulled taunt against the shield.
To remove the shield, loosen the locking attachment and slide it downward. Gently slide the shield down and away from the face. If desired, leave the drawstring locked in place and carefully pull the shield over the head. This helps keep the shield in that ideal position you set.
If wearing surgical loupes or glasses, you may wish to increase the distance away from the face slightly more, so the glasses don’t bump the inside of the shield. If using a head lamp that has a clamping mechanism, the light can be easily and securely clipped to the upper rim of the shield.
For individuals who may have a more narrow width between the shoulders, you can use a sharp pair of scissors to trim the base of the shield. Be careful not to over trim into the notch area (arrow); this could cause a slippage of the drawstring and loss of stability. Do not trim off the front of the base, as this provides the base for stability.
